Nonviolent Direct Action in the Fight for Legacy Forests

While working on my latest piece for Columbia Insight, I had the privilege of speaking with an activist involved in an ongoing tree-sit whose goal is to stop the Parched legacy forest timber sale on state lands on the Olympic Peninsula. While a vibrant movement to protect legacy forests has been growing in Washington for the last several years, this is the first time this specific nonviolent direct action tactic has been used to stop the logging of one of these forests–at least so far as I’m aware (and I follow these things pretty closely).

Check out my full interview with a member of Olympic Forest Defenders, the group behind this bold protest.
