In 2013, I was one of the founding members of 350-Missoula, a new grassroots organization in Missoula, Montana dedicated to building a local climate movement to challenge fossil fuel projects and support clean energy solutions. I joined the volunteer Leadership Team of 350-Missoula, and became the chair of the organization’s Coal Committee, coordinating work to oppose coal export and coal mining projects. 350-Missoula organized rallies, peacefully blockaded coal trains coming through Missoula, collected thousands of petition signatures opposing coal exports, and spent hundreds of hours tabling at public events in Missoula to get the word out about the harmful impacts of coal pollution.
Although I moved on from 350-Missoula in 2015 (to return to school in Washington state), the organization continues to thrive and engage people in the Montana climate activist movement.
