Hey! Northwest Natural campaign

dsc00694-3Soon after graduating from Pacific University, I joined the volunteer steering committee for the Hey! Northwest Natural campaign, a project sponsored by the Sierra Club, Columbia Riverkeeper, Bark, and other organizations to oppose the construction of Northwest Natural’s Palomar liquefied natural gas (LNG) pipeline. I helped plan strategy and tactics for the campaign, and focused the bulk of my efforts on engaging college students in this important work. When staff from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission visited Oregon to study the proposed pipeline route, students from Pacific University and Linfield College came to greet them at several study sites and shared concerns about LNG. I also participated in organizing a large rally outside Northwest Natural’s annual shareholders meeting in Portland.

The Palomar pipeline was eventually cancelled, and no longer poses a threat to the people and ecosystems of the Pacific Northwest.
