I am a regular contributor to the Butterflies and Moths of North America (BAMONA) citizen science project, uploading photos of lepidopterans that I have collected during the course of the last several years in Oregon, Montana, and Washington. BAMONA helps scientists chart the distributions of butterfly and moth species, while tracking changes in species ranges caused by climate change and other environmental factors. I have had over 100 lepidopteran sightings confirmed by BAMONA’s panel of coordinators so far, and in some cases have added records of species that had not previously been recorded by BAMONA in the county where I had found them.
Below is a sampling of photos of the lepidopterans I have collected for purposes of scientific study and observation, many of which I donated to North Cascades Institute’s educational collection.
