While working on my Master’s in Environmental Education at North Cascades Institute, I worked as the Natural History Collections Grad Student. This meant I was in charge of curating, caring for, and expanding the Institute’s collection of natural history specimens. Specific tasks I performed as part of this job included organizing and labeling the specimens in the natural history collection (including rocks, preserved animals, and dried fungi and plants), adding to the insect collection, performing taxidermy on dead birds and mammals, and creating interpretive educational displays to showcase specimens for the public. In the photo to the left, I am leading a bird taxidermy workshop for high school students.
