In 2014, I was privileged to be part of Protect the Sacred, an organization of indigenous people and allies in the Missoula, MT area working to oppose oil pipelines and other fossil fuel projects. My involvement with Protect the Sacred included coordinating a rally against the Keystone XL pipeline as part of a national day of action to demonstrate opposition to this project. I also worked to channel resources from local and regional environmental groups toward supporting indigenous organizing efforts, and to turn out non-indigenous allies to support indigenous-led events and projects.
